Spearmint, or spear mint (Mentha spicata var. crispa), also known as Mentha viridis, is a species of mint. In contrast to peppermint (Mentha piperita) has a softer, sweeter aroma. Contains less menthol, but more carvone. Other active ingredients are limonene, monoterpenes, flavonoids and tannins.
