Agaricon is a mushroom that has been known in Europe since ancient times. It is a disease-causing woody mushroom that grows in the northern hemisphere, mainly in the higher regions of Europe (Alps, Carpathians...), then in Canada and Asia.
It most often attacks larch trees, where it produces fruiting bodies up to 60 cm long. Its shape may remind us of a column or an elongated hoof. It has a distinctly bitter taste, which is why people once mistakenly thought it contained quinine.
